Purdue adds two more recruits to 2022 class after pledges from Texas DL, Ohio RB

There are two new members in Purdue’s 2022 recruiting class. The Boilermakers landed a pair of pledges on Saturday to give the staff a weekend boost.

Texas defensive lineman JP Deeter and Ohio running back Kentrell Marks both verbally committed to Purdue on Saturday, increasing the total to nine verbal pledges for the cycle. Deeter announced his decision on Twitter, while Marks’ high school head coach congratulated him on the decision via social media.

Deeter is listed as a 6-foot-4, 265-pound defensive lineman out of Manvel, Texas. He played in multiple spots along the front line during the 2020 season and was credited with 61 tackles, 17 for loss, 5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 pass break-ups at Manvel High School.

Prior to his time in Texas, Deeter played at Topeka High School in Kansas as a sophomore. During the 2019 campaign, he posted 133 stops and tallied 4 sacks.

More than a dozen schools offered Deeter, with Purdue beating Air Force, Arkansas State, Army, Buffalo, Marshall, Memphis, Navy, Oregon State, San Diego State, Stanford and Washington State for his pledge.

Marks is a Top 500 player in the 2022 class, ranking No. 493 nationally and coming in as the No. 39 running back. The Cleveland native picked Purdue over offers from Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Pitt and West Virginia.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound back rushed for 1,470 yards and scored 23 touchdowns last season at Valley Forge High School. His team finished the season with a 5-3 record. Marks averaged an impressive 183.8 yards per game on the ground.

With the two additions on Saturday, Purdue jumps up to the No. 36 ranked recruiting class nationally of the 2022 cycle. The Boilers will sit at No. 10 in the B1G.
