Report: Michigan LB, son of ex-assistant returns to transfer portal for second time

Michigan linebacker Ed Warinner, the son of former offensive line coach Ed Warinner, has entered his name into the transfer portal, according to Rivals.com. It’s the second time in his career he’s entered the database.
Warriner started his career in East Lansing, playing at Michigan State before entering the transfer portal and eventually landing with the Wolverines. He spent two years with the Spartans, appearing in seven games and was credited with 3 tackles, all of which game during the 2019 season.

In his lone season at Michigan, Warinner played in three games on special teams.
Redshirting in his first season at MSU in 2018, Warinner will still have three years of eligibility to use at his next destination. The NCAA is allowing all fall student-athletes an additional year of eligibility due to the pandemic.
Warinner’s father was the offensive line coach for the Wolverines but the two sides parted ways following a 2-4 campaign in 2020.
