Ohio State’s newest 5-star commit, J.T. Tuimoloau, will reportedly attempt to play basketball for the Buckeyes as well.

The 6-foot-5, 270 pound defensive lineman committed to Ohio State on Sunday afternoon. According to The Columbus Dispatch, he did so with the intention of playing both football and basketball.

Per the Dispatch’s report, Tuimoloau met with Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann during his official visit to Columbus back in June. Holtmann and Day are expected to work out an arrangement that allows Tuimoloau to play both sports.

Several schools, including Oregon and Washington, offered Tuimoloau a basketball scholarship during his recruitment.

It’s currently unclear how Tuimoloau’s time will be split in Year 1. Ohio State’s basketball season is set to start in the middle of the football campaign, and a potential College Football Playoff appearance for the Buckeyes would push well into conference play of the basketball season.

According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Tuimoloau is the No. 3 overall prospect in the class of 2021. He chose the Buckeyes over USC, Oregon and Washington.
