Purdue guard Jaden Ivey earns high praise while playing for Team USA at U-19 World Cup
Purdue guard Jaden Ivey appears to have made a big leap this summer while playing for Team USA.
Ivey is representing the US at the FIBA U-19 World Cup. So far, he’s arguably been USA’s best player on a team that includes No. 1 overall recruit Chet Holmgren, 5-star forward Patrick Baldwin and LSU guard Adam Miller.
Through two games, Ivey is averaging a team-best 17.5 points per contest. He’s also contributed six steals, three assists and five rebounds. He’s done all that in less than 18 minutes per contest as Team USA is spreading out the playing time.
Ivey was impressive as a freshman for Purdue, but it seems like he’s capable of taking on a bigger role in his sophomore campaign. Last year, he averaged 11.1 points per game on 39.9 percent shooting.
Ivey and Team USA will be in action again on Tuesday as they take on Australia to close out the group stage. If they win, they’ll top Group A and will play in the quarterfinals on July 9. The medal round begins on July 10 with a potential gold medal game scheduled for July 11.
Here’s some of the reaction to Ivey’s impressive play in the U-19 World Cup:
Love this sequence from Purdue's Jaden Ivey. Gets up for a defensive board and tries to push for the initial advantage in transition. Doesn't have one so resets the O then gets rewarded with a dime after a perfect cut. pic.twitter.com/KGd6VliShU

Jaden Ivey was far and away the best player on the floor for USA today in their 1st game of FIBA U19, including 3 steals for run out dunks. He'll be a huge riser up draft boards next year. pic.twitter.com/6O9iDgk8EL

Purdue's Jaden Ivey led USA with 21 points in 19 minutes in yesterday's win over Turkey.
Should be one of the best guards in the country next season.
The buzz is already palpable in West Lafayette. https://t.co/Bkv0DZqqpF

Two 2021 fringe first round picks returning to college – Jaden Ivey and Benedict Mathurin – with solid starts at the FIBA U19 World Cup. Ivey (USA/Purdue) averaging 14.5ppg and Mathurin (Canada/Arizona) with a 30pt outing. Both the United States and Canada are 2-0.
