The good news continues to pour in for James Franklin and the Penn State staff on the recruiting trail. On Tuesday, the Nittany Lions added another major piece to the 2022 class.

Tuesday evening, Penn State received a verbal commitment from 4-star running back Nicholas Singleton, one of the nation’s Top 100 prospects in the 2022 class. He’s listed as the No. 6 running back of the cycle and the Reading native is the second-best player out of Pennsylvania.

Singleton selected Penn State over Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas A&M and Wisconsin. He made his announcement on CBS Sports at 5 p.m. ET.

During the 2020 season at Governor Mifflin, Singleton was responsible for 1,311 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on 107 carries and also caught 3 passes for 22 yards. A year earlier, the running back totaled 1,690 rushing yards and scored 32 times on 180 touches.

At 6-foot, 210 pounds, Singleton is a big addition to a running back room at Penn State that includes Noah Cain, Caziah Holmes and Devyn Ford. Singleton will look to fit into an immediate role with the Nittany Lions in his first season in 2022.

Penn State has seen a major influx of commitments over the holiday weekend. Singleton becomes the 18th overall player to pledge and is currently the highest-ranked prospect to commit to Franklin and Co.

The Nittany Lions currently rank No. 3 nationally and No. 2 in the B1G. Of the 18 pledges, 10 have received a 4-star rating from 247Sports Composite.
