Purdue and Indiana don’t just fight for the Old Oaken Bucket every year, they’re battling for the state’s top recruits. The two schools are both in consideration for one of the top prospects within state boundaries.
Saturday afternoon, 4-star defensive lineman Joe Strickland released the three schools he’s still considering for his commitment. Purdue and Indiana are both in the mix and Stanford is the third program to make the cut. Strickland announced his schools on Twitter.
During the recruiting process, 21 schools have offered Strickland. Out of consideration are Penn State, Arizona State, Boston College, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Tennessee, among others.

At 6-foot-4, 250 pounds, Strickland ranks as the No. 5 player out of Indiana and the No. 32 defensive lineman in the class, per 247Sports. Nationally, he ranks as the No. 227 overall recruit in the 2022 class.
From 247Sports recruiting analyst Allen Trieu:
Has rushed the passer both from a three-point and two-point in high school. In college, he will likely be down more often than up, but offers some versatility. Can shade inside as well and could even play some three-tech in college potentially depending on his growth. High motor guy with solid technique. Uses his hands well, disciplined, and does not give up on plays. Solid all around athlete but will have to keep getting more explosive and show he has the twitch to play full time on the edge in college. But a high floor kind of prospect who should be productive.
Both Purdue and Indiana have seen an uptick in recruiting during the summer months. Indiana’s 2022 class currently ranks inside the Top 25 nationally and is No. 5 in the B1G. Purdue is at No. 40 in the nation and down at No. 11 in the conference.
