It’s official, Marcus Carr will not be returning to Minnesota. This weekend, the star guard announced that he will be heading elsewhere to complete his career in college basketball.

Carr announced on Instagram on Saturday that he will be transferring to Texas. The All-B1G guard entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal following the 2020-21 season when the school parted ways with former head coach Richard Pitino. He also declared for the NBA Draft, but withdrew after going through the pre-draft process.

Throughout his career at Minnesota, Carr was a dynamite scorer and was also an excellent distributor. Carr averaged 19.4 points and 4.9 assists per game while also averaged 4.0 rebounds per contest. He shot 38.5% from the floor, nearly 80% from the foul line and 31.7% from 3-point range.

Carr transferred to Minnesota after spending a season at Pitt. In three years on the floor, Carr is averaging 14.8 points, 5.1 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in his career.

Carr joins a Texas Longhorns team that has undergone some changes in the offseason. After Shaka Smart left the program to be the head coach at Marquette, Texas hired Chris Bears away from Texas Tech.

The Longhorns closed out the 2020-21 season with a 19-8 record and an 11-6 mark in the Big 12.
