Justin Fields, Bears coach Matt Nagy comment on Chicago’s quarterback battle

Is there anything that can fire up a fanbase than a quarterback selected high up in the NFL Draft?
It’s hard to think of many things. This points to the buzz around Chicago Bears training camp as first-round pick and former Ohio State Buckeye Justin Fields has begun taking the field and catching the eye of fans.
For the Bears, much of the training camp narrative revolves around Fields and the team’s quarterback battle. Right now, the job looks to be Andy Dalton’s. But that doesn’t mean all eyes aren’t pointed toward Fields.
As the Chicago-Sun Times points out, Fields jerseys are all over the fans in attendance at training camp. Fields understands where he’s at the attention being paid toward him.
“I’m constantly growing every day,” Fields said. “A lot of people are anxious to see me play, but greatness doesn’t happen overnight.”
As Bears’ camp continues, there will be more reps for Fields and more chances to see the No. 11 overall pick progress and improve. Those appear to be coming in the role of a backup but provide fans a glimpse of the future.
The future of Fields will look more clear once preseason games begin. Chicago’s first preseason game is less than two weeks away as the Bears face the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 14. It will be a chance to see Fields in a Bears uniform and to see a true test, according to Chicago coach Matt Nagy.
“That’s when things get real,” Nagy said. “You start putting the pads on and the tempo picks up, [and] now we want to see him execute plays and play fast. That’s probably the biggest thing.”
