When Notre Dame fans go to sit down and watch their beloved Fighting Irish play the Toledo Rockets in the home opener on September 11, they might be shocked when they cannot find it on the traditional NBC channel.

Notre Dame’s home opener will be streamed exclusively on Peacock NBCUniversal streaming service. If Notre Dame fans do not already have NBCUniversal’s streaming service, they will have to buy it before Sept. 11 to be able to watch the Irish in South Bend in Week 2.

Notre Dame’s athletic director Jack Swarbick talked about the innovation Notre Dame has used within the media world.

“We have always strived for innovation in the media space [and] our partnership with NBC and Peacock only solidifies that mission,” Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. per Yahoo’s Pete Thamel. “Bringing Notre Dame football to Peacock is just the next step in the evolution of our relationship.”

More and more live events have been thrust into streaming services such as ESPN+, Hulu, YoutubeTV and the Peacock. This could just be the new way to watch live sports in the near future.

College athletics is rapidly changing with NIL, conference realignment talk and now streaming services getting more involved with live events. College football will look vastly different in the years to come.

Notre Dame might be the trend-setter for the future of watching college football.
