The NCAA announced Wednesday the new guidelines for COVID-19 protocols when it comes to fall sports and competition.
For unvaccinated and fully vaccinated Tier 1 individuals will have to go through isolation, quarantine, testing and more according to the 2021 Fall Training and Competition document.
Tier 1 includes student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, medical staff, equipment staff and officials who have high exposure to COVID-19.
“Current vaccination rates remain inadequate to provide community-level immunity,” NCAA Chief Medical Officer Brian Hainline said. per NCAA.org “It is essential that member schools work in concert with federal, state and local public health officials to develop COVID-19 prevention and management strategies that make sense for them.”

As the Delta variant looms large with the upcoming football season under a month away and the fact that even fully vaccinated individuals can get and transmit COVID-19 Delta variant, it is good that the NCAA came out with specific guidelines on how to handle certain individuals in the event someone on the team gets COVID-19
The NCAA consulted with many different organizations such as the NCAA Medical Advisory Group, American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Working Group and Autonomy 5 Medical Advisory Group. According to NCAA.org.
The guidelines are in place for the upcoming fall seasons, let’s hope that we have a safe and uninterrupted football season this fall.
