Year 1 of the Mel Tucker era at Michigan State amounted to a 2-5 record in the shortened 2020 campaign. Heading into this season, Michigan State will have 14 transfer players (via 247Sports) and 33 newcomers in total.
That’s a staggering amount of incoming players but so far Tucker believes that the new pieces are blending in seamlessly.
Mel Tucker: “I didn’t see a team full of transfers out there. …I saw a football team with a lot of new faces. …Operation was smooth today. It really was.”

Tucker: “We have a lot more competitive roster, so you have to be at your best more often in this type of environment.”

Some of the transfers include cornerback Ronald Williams, wide receiver Maliq Carr, and linebacker Quavaris Crouch.
Michigan State is projected by Sporting News as the second to worst team in the B1G East, ahead of only Rutgers.
Michigan State opens the season in primetime on Sept. 3 at Northwestern (9 p.m. EST/ESPN).
