ESPN hires former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III to be college football analyst

Signaling an apparent end to his playing days, it was announced Thursday former Baylor Bears quarterback Robert Griffin III is joining ESPN as a college football and National Football League analyst.

Baylor’s all-time leader in passing yards (10,366) and touchdown passes (78), Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy as a redshirt junior in 2011, leading the Bears to a 10-3 (6-3 Big 12) record and an Alamo Bowl victory over the Washington Huskies.

Electing to forgo his final year of collegiate eligibility, he was selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins and burst on the scene, winning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Unfortunately, the electrifying gunslinger suffered a torn ACL and LCL in a Wild Card loss to the Seattle Seahawks as a rookie and was never quite the same player.

Released by the Redskins in March 2016, Griffin III spent a year with the Cleveland Browns and, after being out of the league for the 2017 campaign, was on the Baltimore Ravens’ roster for the last three seasons, serving as the backup to Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hen Joe Flacco and Louisville Cardinal Lamar Jackson.

Griffin III’s alma mater is entering their second season under Dave Aranda and will begin their 2021 schedule on September 4 with a road date with the Texas State Bobcats at 7 p.m. ET.
