After leading the Hoosiers to an 8-5 record last season, head coach Tom Allen is far from satisfied.

He spoke today at Indiana’s media day as they were kicking off fall practice and one of his main points was that the team’s goal is to win the Big Ten Championship this season.

Per IndianaRivals, Allen said:

“We’ve been pretty clear on our goals. We finished second in the B1G East last year and our goal is to play in the B1G Championship Game and win the game. So, there’s a lot of things that have to happen before that occurs. Right now, the next step is having a great fall camp.”

Allen also spoke a lot about buying in and how well the team could come together for it and said:

“How well this team comes together is going to be a major factor. How well we perform on game day. I mean, how hard are these guys willing to work? So, how well they buy into that, how hard they work, how focused they are in meetings and taking notes. We’re just chasing greatness every day. How do we get one percent better every day? You have to be determined. Do we have talent? Yes, we have talent. Do we have good players? Yes, I believe we have a lot of good football players. I love our coaching staff.”

He then ended with how excited this team could be this year:

“But how well this team meshes together, the chemistry we create, how hard we play for each other, with each other, and how well we perform each and every day. If those things all happen, then I’m excited about what this team can become.”

Indiana has a lot of talent returning in 2021 and that includes quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who threw for 1,645 yards and 14 touchdowns last season.

The Hoosiers will open their season on Sept. 4 with a trip to Iowa at 3:30 p.m. EST.
