Report: Former Nebraska K signing with New Orleans Saints

After the New Orleans Saints received word that starting kicker Will Lutz will be missing significant time this season, the team has reportedly made a move to sign former Nebraska kicker Brett Maher.
The veteran kicker will be signing with the Saints, according to ESPN’s Mike Triplett.
Maher, 31, became first kicker in NFL history to make three FGs from 60-plus (62 in 2018, 63 and 62 in 2019) but was released by Cowboys after making just 20-of-30 FGs in 2019. (Was 29 of 36 in 2018; 68 of 69 XPs overall)

Known for his strong leg, Maher has a pair of 62-yard field goals on his resume, along with a 63-yarder in his NFL career. In fact, no other NFL kicker has three field goals from those lengths. But Maher has kicked in just 29 career games and struggled with accuracy during the 2019 season with the Cowboys, and wasn’t on the field at all in 2020.
Having just converted 20 of his 30 field goal attempts in 2019, Maher was replaced by Kai Forbath later in the year and left the Cowboys at the end of the season. Since then, he has spent time on practice squads around the NFL, logging time with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals, and the Washington Football Team.
Maher entered the NFL back in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska, after converting 39-of-50 field goals during his stint in Lincoln. As a rookie he played for the Jets and Cowboys, before going to the Canadian Football League. He came back to the NFL in 2017 with the Cleveland Browns, before heading to Dallas the following season.
