Unfortunately, Ohio State will be without one of its defensive backs this season. Freshman Jaylen Johnson sustained a torn ACL during practice and will miss the entire 2021 season, according to On3.
The Cincinnati native arrived at Ohio State as a three-star safety. Johnson was low on the depth chart but his work ethic was being noticed by the coaching staff.
“[Linebackers coach Al] Washington told me one thing,” Johnson said via Lettermen Row. “He said that I’m one of the hardest workers he’s ever seen. [Jeff] Hafley told me that too. I knew coming into that camp I was going to have to work hard, to show coaches I can run, jump and move my hips, to just play football.”
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Johnson is ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s 30th best safety for the Class of 2021.
Ohio State begins its quest for a national title with a season-opening primetime matchup at Minnesota on Sept. 2.
