With the Chicago Bears preseason opener just a couple of days away, word is trickling out about who will and won’t play.
That includes quarterback Justin Fields, who the Bears and their fans hope to be one of their franchise players for the foreseeable future. Head coach Matt Nagy confirmed on Thursday morning that Fields will be playing into the second half on Saturday.
Bears coach Matt Nagy said that rookie QB Justin Fields will play “past halftime” and potentially into the fourth quarter against the Dolphins on Saturday. They want him to get a bunch of reps.

Getting a lot of reps early in the preseason makes a ton of sense, especially if Fields is trying to be the starter come Week 1.
Nagy also confirmed that Fields is likely going to get reps with the starters as well.
Nagy also adds that there is a good possibility that Fields plays with some of the starters on Saturday.
That must play out, though. It depends on what Andy Dalton does on the Bears’ first possession.

Going into training camp, Nagy nabbed Dalton as his starting quarterback, which Bears fans didn’t take too kindly since the organization traded up to take Fields at the draft.
Some of that may have been coach-speak, but Fields will get his chance to get Nagy to change his mind starting on Saturday. Kickoff between the Bears and Dolphins will be at 1 p.m. ET.
