It did not take long for Chase Young to make an impact and introduce himself to New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton.

During Thursday’s action, Young came through with an early hit on Newton during New England’s first possession of the game. Young absolutely blew by the offensive tackle and was on Newton in a hurry.

He delivered a hit and dislodged the ball but officials ruled Newton’s arm was in the process of coming forward, ruling it an incomplete pass. Young did not play long with just 7 pass-rush snaps on the night but still managed to log 2 QB hurries.

After the game, Newton was asked about his first impression of playing against Young:

“He’s smaller than I thought,” said Newton.

He was quick to follow up with a chuckle and explanation:

“I’m just messing with you, that’s a joke! He’s gonna be good, he’s gonna be real good,” explained Newton. “But I’ve got to do a better job of protecting the football. He got me right in the tweener when I was letting the ball go or trying to pull it back.”

Newton got a taste of Young, but he’ll be lucky that is it for this season. The Patriots and Washington are not scheduled to face each other during the regular season.
