Former Illinois star Ayo Dosunmu has earned a guaranteed contract in the NBA, according to a report.

That’s per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, who says it’s a two-year deal worth upwards of $2.48 million.

Dosunmu was a second-round pick, which means a guaranteed contract is not a certainty. Many second-rounders end up signing two-way contracts or non-guaranteed deals.

It’s a signal that the Bulls believe he can help them early on in his NBA career.

Dosunmu is coming off an excellent season at Illinois where he established himself as one of the top players in all of college basketball. He averaged 20.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game.

He’s not likely to see significant playing time as a rookie, but Dosunmu could play a role off the Bulls bench if necessary. Chicago’s back court includes established players like Zach Lavine, Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso, as well as recent lottery pick Coby White.

Dosunmu has the size and versatility to play either guard spot in the NBA.

The NBA’s 2021-22 season begins on Oct. 19.
