Justin Fields was back under center on Saturday afternoon.
The former Buckeye made his NFL debut in a preseason game between Chicago and Miami. While there was a lot of hype and anticipation surrounding Fields heading into the first game, it was obvious that there’s still a learning curve.
Fields’ 1st half didn’t quite go as planned. He completed 7-of-12 passes for 52 yards through the opening 30 minutes. He also had 2 carries for 2 yards. Fields’ start was a little rough, completing just 2-of-6 passes for 10 yards until the Bears’ final drive.
Many were hoping to see a much better showing from the quarterback of the future.
It’s important to remember, though, that it’s just the first game of the preseason. It’s not uncommon for fans to overreact, but there will undoubtedly be some things Fields must get accustomed to before he can be successful.
Here’s what social media was saying about Fields’ first showing on Saturday afternoon:
It's good to know that NFL first-round draft picks aren't being judged based on their first-ever half of live preseason football…

It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason. It’s just the preseason.

Watching this…Fields may eventually develop into a star in the league, but right now all that talk was incredibly premature.
Obviously a rookie.
Will be fun to watch his growth and see what he becomes.

Justin Fields first drive:
Missed holding call on Miami but still competes the pass.
2 false starts by a WR and OL sets up a 3rd and long in their own end zone.
I’m so sorry, Justin.
