With a little more than two weeks until Ohio State travels to the Twin Cities for its season opener against Minnesota, the newest quarterback has arrived in Columbus.

Ohio State University confirmed on Sunday that 5-star quarterback and the nation’s highest-ranked prospect has enrolled at the school. He has also joined the football team ahead of the 2021 season and will wear No. 3 on his jersey.

The Columbus Dispatch reported the news on Sunday.

Ewers was initially a member of the 2022 recruiting class but reclassified at the beginning of August. Because Texas does not allow high school student-athletes to profit from name, image and likeness, the highly-ranked recruit decided to finish prep career and move to Columbus to take advantage of NIL opportunities.

Ewers will join a loaded quarterback room at Ohio State. Heading into the 2021 season, C.J. Stroud, Kyle McCord and Jack Miller were the three candidates battling for a starting job. Though Ewers is arriving late to the party, he can’t be ruled out as a potential candidate for the job at some point in the year.

It’ll be interesting to see how head coach Ryan Day will handle the situation.

The Buckeyes open the year on Thursday, Sept. 2 against the Golden Gophers.
