Burying 3-of-6 3-point attempts, rookie center Luka Garza tallied 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 103-86 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Summer League action Saturday.

Selected with the No. 52 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the former Hawkeye has made an impressive impact from the jump over the summer, averaging 13.5 points and 8.25 rebounds in 19.8 minutes-per-game while shooting 42.9 percent from behind the arc.

In the discussion for best player in school history, Garza put up 18.2 points and 7.3 rebounds over 127 contests during his four years in Iowa City and started 118 of those games, including all 62 over the 2019-20 and 2020-21 campaigns.

A two-time B1G Player of the Year in 2020 and 2021, the Maret School (Washington, D.C.) product took home the Naismith and John R. Wooden Awards as a senior and his 2,306 points are the most a Hawkeye has ever scored, nearly 200 more than the great Roy Marble.

Garza and the Pistons will next hit the Summer League court in Las Vegas, Nevada Monday for a clash with the Orlando Magic, who feature former Michigan Wolverines Ignas Brazdeikis, Jon Teske and Franz Wagner.

Entering their 12th season under Fran McCaffery, Iowa has made the last two NCAA Tournaments, and five of the last seven, but last reached the Sweet Sixteen in 1999.
