The preseason AP-Top 25 poll came out today, and for the first time in over 50 years, Indiana is on the list.
The Hoosiers come into the season ranked 17 in the preseason poll. The Hoosiers have not appeared in the preseason poll since 1969. Tom Allen was asked about his thoughts on the preseason ranking.
Allen said “It says something about the perception of our program by others.” According to Kevin Brockway of CNHIIndiana:

Allen is in his fifth season with the Hoosiers, with an overall record of 24-22. The Hoosiers and Allen are coming off an incredible year where they went 6-2 on the season, and Allen won many coach of the year accolades.
The Hoosiers look to improve upon their 2020 season where they only lost two games, and only one in B1G play against eventual B1G champion Ohio State.
The Hoosiers are hoping star QB Michael Penix Jr. will be ready for the season opener. Penix Jr. tore his ACL late last season in a game against Maryland that Indiana would go on to win 27-11.
The Hoosiers open the season at Kinnick Stadium against the Iowa Hawkeyes Saturday, Sept. 4.
