Gary Brown might be new to Wisconsin but his philosophy and approach to game day is one everyone can get on board with.
Brown is tasked with coaching the Badgers running backs, a position that has dominated the B1G for decades now. He has the obligation of developing players like Jalen Berger, Chez Mellusi and others into breakout stars for the upcoming season.
For a program that expects a lot out of its backfield, that can be a lot of pressure. Brown’s philosophy might make his life a little bit easier, though. In fact, he keeps it pretty simple.
“I’ve had a lot of guys and my philosophy is: Whoever is hot stays in the game and runs,” Brown told Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
Sounds like a pretty strong approach.
#Badgers practice today but it is closed to reporters (Boo!). However, we'll have a story looking at how the TB workload might shake out. New RB coach Gary Brown: “I’ve had a lot of guys and my philosophy is: Whoever is hot stays in the game and runs."

There were some questions about Wisconsin’s running back situation at the end of the 2020 season. The Badgers ranked seventh in the B1G in rushing offense and with Garrett Groshek heading to the NFL, there was a lack of depth behind Berger.
Wisconsin addressed that concern in the offseason, adding Mellusi from the transfer portal out of Clemson. Now, the backfield has that combination of power and speed necessary to be explosive.
It should be a fun group to watch in 2021. And Brown will be riding the hot hand each game.
