Illinois picked up a big commitment on Monday afternoon.

3-star defensive line prospect Brian Allen Jr. picked the Illini over Iowa. The Hawkeyes were the only other team on his final list.

Here’s his announcement:

Allen is a 3-star prospect and the No. 117-ranked defensive lineman in the class of 2022, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

He attends St. Thomas More High School in Woodstock, Ill. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds.

Illinois coach Bret Bielema acknowledged his commitment:

Allen is Illinois’ 16th commitment in the class of 2022. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Illinois’ class currently ranks No. 43 nationally and No. 10 in the Big Ten.

He’s Illinois’ first commitment in this class on the defensive line and the ninth from the state of Illinois.

Illinois first offered Allen back in June. He also has offers from Iowa State, Purdue and Virginia Tech, amongst others.

Prospects from the class of 2022 can officially sign with programs during the Early Signing Period in December.

Illinois opens its 2021 season on Saturday against Nebraska.
