Former Badgers running back Nakia Watson has made the Washington State team, though it’s as a backup.

Dave Heller first confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon on his Twitter.

Watson played 2 years with the Badgers (2019 & 2020) before transferring to Washington State for his junior year. His best season came in 2019 as a freshman when he had 74 carries for 331 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. His longest run was just a tad under 30 yards (27).

In 2020, Watson’s numbers declined a little bit as he only had 53 rushes for 191 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Before originally committing to Wisconsin, Watson was considered a 3-star prospect as per 247Sports composite ranking. He was the No. 65 player in Texas during the 2018 recruiting class and also the No. 21 running back recruit for the country as well.

Washington State will open its 2021 campaign with a home matchup against Utah State on Sept. 4. Fans not on the west coast will have to stay up late to watch them as kickoff is at 11 p.m. ET.
