Wisconsin opens the season with a big one this weekend: Penn State at home.

And Badgers sophomore quarterback Graham Mertz is calling for students to come out to Camp Randall Stadium for the game — especially since fans weren’t allowed at home games last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Make sure you get there early,” Mertz said in a video on Wisconsin Football’s Twitter page. “[We’ve] got a bunch of cool stuff for you guys. Can’t wait to see you guys.”

Mertz burst onto the scene last year as a redshirt freshman when he completed 20 of 21 passes and threw for five touchdowns in last year’s season-opening 45-7 win over Illinois in Madison. He tested positive for COVID-19 a few days after and threw two touchdowns over the final five games of 2020.

Wisconsin and Penn State will square off at 11 a.m. CT on Sept. 4 to kick off their respective seasons — with a full house expected at Camp Randall for the first time since 2019.
