As Illinois prepares to host fans again for its Week 1 contest vs. UTSA this weekend, the athletic department is reminding fans of its mask policy for indoor areas of Memorial Stadium.

Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman released a statement on Thursday morning reminding fans to wear a mask during the appropriate times. That includes trips to the concession stand.

“It is important that we, as a Fighting Illini community, remain proactive to protect the health and safety on not only ourselves, but of those around us,” Whitman said in a release. “We were thrilled to have fans, students, and supporters back in Memorial Stadium last Saturday, and the atmosphere was incredible. Continued diligence and adherence to best public health practices will help ensure that we can enjoy Illinois sports, together again and without interruption, throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons.”

In addition to concession stands, Illinois is also asking fans to wear masks inside the Great West Hall, the East Hall, restrooms, premium seating areas, elevators and elevator lobbies.

Illinois defeated Nebraska 30-22 in an upset victory during Week 0. Fans were in attendance at Memorial Stadium for the first time since a loss to Northwestern on Nov. 30, 2019.

Kick off against UTSA on Saturday is at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
