Minnesota gave Ohio State a battle but ultimately the Buckeyes prevailed in Thursday’s season opener.
In providing his key takeaways from the game, FOX analyst Joel Klatt was extremely complimentary of the job done by Ohio State coach Ryan Day. Klatt gives credit to Day for his approach while redshirt freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud was still getting his feet wet.
Stroud only threw for 58 yards and an interception in the first half, before erupting for an eye-popping five completions for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns in the second half.
“If I were giving a game ball it’d be to Ryan Day… He allowed the veterans on the team to carry a young QB through his struggles in his first start and got him through to the other side. That’s hard to do.” @joelklatt gives a full breakdown of @OhioStateFB‘s season opener ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/iFnOLOt9LH

After a few years of less stiff competition in season openers, the conference clash at Minnesota forced Ohio State into an early wake-up call.
Next up for Ohio State is a home contest vs. Oregon on Sept. 11 (12 p.m. EST/FOX).
