In the season opener against Western Michigan, Cade McNamara and the Michigan Wolverines passed their test with flying colors.

After earning the first start of 2021 in fall camp, McNamara helped the Wolverines get off to a fast start against the Broncos. A part of that start was a 76-yard touchdown to Ronnie Bell in the second quarter.

In total, McNamara threw 2 touchdowns and guided the offense to 27 first-half points in Week 1. He only missed two throws in his near-perfect 2021 debut as Michigan rolled to a 47-14 win.

After the game, head coach Jim Harbaugh discussed McNamara’s performance. His big takeaway? McNamara just keeps the team moving and produces points when he is on the field.

That’s a good sign for your starting QB:

“He moves our team,” said Harbaugh. “All the drives he’s been in — we score points when he’s out there.”

McNamara finished the game 9-for-11 passing with 136 yards and 2 TDs before giving way to freshman J.J. McCarthy. Right now, Michigan’s biggest concern may be the status of Bell after he went down with a knee injury.
