Towns, who transferred from Harvard prior to the 2020-21 season, has battled injuries throughout his career. He missed the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons with injuries as well.
Last season for the Buckeyes, he played in 25 games and averaged 3.8 points per contest. He was expected to take on a much bigger role for Ohio State this season.
If he misses the next fourth months, it’s possible he could still be available for most of Ohio State’s conference slate. The regular season Big Ten basketball schedule has not yet been released.
This injury likely means Towns will miss Ohio State’s high-profile matchups vs. Duke (Nov. 30) and Kentucky (Dec. 18) during the Buckeyes’ nonconference slate.
Ohio State’s first game of the year is on Nov. 9 against Akron.
