Ohio State DC Kerry Coombs addresses disappointing showing in loss to Oregon

Ohio State’s defense showed some cracks Saturday afternoon.
Allowing 35 points wasn’t ideal. Nor was allowing 269 rushing yards or 236 passing yards.
That was the difference in the No. 3-ranked Buckeyes’ stunning loss to No. 12 Oregon at the Horseshoe Saturday afternoon. Quarterback CJ Stroud threw for 484 yards and 3 touchdowns for Ohio State, but the Oregon offense had its way with the Buckeyes defense.
The Buckeyes allowed 31 points to Minnesota in Week 1 last week, but they scored 45 points to overcome that number. Allowing 35 points today didn’t help the offense much, especially with Stroud going 35-for-54 passing. It was the recipe for an upset.
Defensive coordinator Kerry Coombs met the media after the game to talk about the loss and his defense’s performance.
Kerry Coombs: “I'm disappointed. That's how I feel. I hate losing. I hate it with a passion. You don't come to Ohio State to get beat. You don't come to Ohio State to get beat in the Shoe.”

DC Kerry Coombs said he is comfortable with Ohio State’s defensive scheme, but said “ We have to do things differently.”

Coombs: "I love the scheme, I love the players, and to have the opportunity to be a football coach at Ohio State is a blessing, and I don't take it lightly. I can assure you, we will get better."

"I think the amount of plays that were run into the boundary side was something that they probably hadn't shown a good deal of." Coombs says that's where the Buckeyes had the most difficulty today.

Kerry Coombs' response to the backlash he'll receive after today: "My response is that I'm responsible. That's my job. We have to play better."
