The Detroit Lions may have just lost one of their best players on defense and it came in the season opener.
Star defensive back Jeff Okudah had to leave the game against the San Francisco 49ers with an apparent Achilles injury and the fear is that it’s torn. Head coach Dan Campbell said evaluations are still ongoing with an MRI scheduled for Monday.
#Lions coach Dan Campbell told reporters they are evaluating CB Jeff Okudah, who appeared to suffer an Achilles injury. They will have an MRI tomorrow to determine if it is fully torn. Another difficult circumstance for Okudah.

If Okudah’s Achilles is fully torn, it would mean that his season is over as those injuries take over a few months to come back from. Before he went out, he had 4 combined tackles (3 solo).
As a rookie in his 2020 season, Okudah had 64 total tackles (48 solo) with 16 passes defended. His season ended up being cut short as he battled both a shoulder and groin injury and missed significant time.
If he’s out for any sort of time again, it would be a massive blow to the Lions’ defense as the unit is trying to be a lot better under new head coach Dan Campbell.
Detroit almost mounted an unthinkable comeback against the 49ers on Sunday but it ended up not happening as San Francisco held on for a 41-33 win.
