Purdue reportedly has its guy.

According to WTHR’s Bob Kravitz, the Boilermakers are expected to name Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck its next head coach:

Footballscoop.com reported that Fleck is not expected to talk to other programs until after the MAC Championship next Friday. He was reported to be negotiating an extension with WMU, as well.

Fleck became one of the top names in the coaching search pool, especially as his Broncos continued their undefeated regular season. On Friday, Fleck led Western Michigan to a win over Toledo to clinch a 12-0 start.

If Fleck is the guy, he figures to receive a significant pay raise compared to what previous head coach Darrell Hazell made. Hazell made $2 million annually. He was fired after four seasons in which he posted a 9-33 record.

UPDATE: According to Yahoo’s Pat Forde, Fleck hasn’t talked to any schools yet and the Purdue rumors are “untrue.”

That’s not to say that Fleck to Purdue isn’t happening, just that talks are not as serious as Kravitz reported, according to Forde.

In other words, stay tuned.
