Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa has a 75 percent completion rate, 956 yards and seven touchdowns through the first three games of 2021.
The Terps are 3-0 for the first time since 2016 and Tagovailoa is the highest rated QB in the country on 20+ yard throws with a 97.5 rating, per Pro Football Focus:
Highest-graded QBs on 20+ yard throws🚀
1. Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland – 97.5
2. Kedon Slovis, USC – 95.5
3. Brennan Armstrong, Virginia – 95.1 pic.twitter.com/tfVP5Pcuh3— PFF College (@PFF_College) September 23, 2021
But the most noteworthy stat so far for Tagovailoa is that along with those numbers, he has yet to throw for an interception.
It’s a welcome sight in College Park, after the Alabama transfer had a turbulent run in 2020, while showing signs of greatness, also threw for seven interceptions over the four games he saw action. His decision making skills were a concern, and the success so far this season bodes well for the future of the Terps hopes of becoming a force to be reckoned with in the B1G.
