Purdue starting running back Zander Horvath is scheduled to miss four to eight weeks with a broken fibula, and the Boilermakers were looking to King Doerue to help fill that hole.

But prior to Saturday’s game with Illinois, Doerue was seen on the sidelines in street clothes.

During the Boilermakers 49-0 trouncing of Connecticut, Doerue had 12 carries for 74 yards and a touchdown, and followed with a 10-carry, 49-yard performance against Notre Dame the next week. Doerue currently leads the Boilermakers with 27 carries for 126 yards and one touchdown.

There has been no official word as to his potential injury.

Purdue is also without star wide receiver David Bell, who entered this week going through concussion protocol. Bell was not seen warming up with the other pass-catchers Saturday. The junior led the team with 21 receptions, 319 receiving yards and three touchdowns in three games this season.
