Purdue came away with a tight victory in the Battle for the Cannon on Saturday afternoon.
Purdue defeated Illinois 13-9 in a defensive battle, even without star WR David Bell. The Boilermaker offense could have used Bell on Saturday.
Bell suffered a concussion last Saturday in the 27-13 loss to No.12 Notre Dame in South Bend, Illinois. He was ultimately ruled out for Saturday’s game against Illinois.
“David Bell was still in concussion protocol,” said head coach Jeff Brohm according to Tom Dienhart of the GoldandBlack.com. “It was out of our hands. He made a lot of progress. He came close (to playing).”

Before the injury, Bell had 21 receptions for 319 yards on 15.2 yards per reception and 3 touchdowns on the year.
Next week Purdue hosts Minnesota at noon ET on BTN.
