True freshman Kyle McCord will be starting his first game as a Buckeye on Saturday night against Akron.

Earlier in the week, it was announced that CJ Stroud would only be used as an emergency quarterback in the game due to a shoulder injury he suffered against Tulsa.

McCord is just the 4th true freshman QB to start for OSU as he joins Art Schlichter, Terrelle Pryor, and Braxton Miller.

McCord was a 5-star quarterback in the 2021 class and was considered the 2nd best player in Pennsylvania. He also was ranked as the No. 6 QB recruit in the country and the No. 28 ranked recruit overall, per his 247Sports Composite ranking.

OSU will look to get to 3-1 after playing Akron going into B1G play and we’ll also have to see if McCord could make head coach Ryan Day consider starting him moving forward if he plays well.

The game is currently being televised by Big Ten Network.
