To add insult to injury, Minnesota will have to pay a hefty fee to Bowling Green after the Gophers suffered a 14-10 loss on Saturday.

According to TwinCities.com, Minnesota agreed to pay $1.45 million for the game — an expensive number even by buy-game standards.

The Golden Gophers were favored by more than four touchdowns, but couldn’t generate enough offense to get by the Falcons.

Quarterback Tanner Morgan was just 5-of-13 for 49 yards and 2 interceptions. Treyson Potts had 27 carries for 141 yards, but couldn’t find the end zone.

To make matters worse for Minnesota, this was the Gophers’ homecoming game. The Falcons had lost 10 consecutive games against FBS opposition.

This was Minnesota’s second loss of the season, but its first since playing Ohio State within two touchdowns back in Week 1. The Gophers also had a close call vs. Miami (OH) back in Week 2, but easily dispatched of Colorado 30-0 last week.

Minnesota will travel to face Purdue in Week 5.
