When reports of Kevin Wilson’s alleged mistreatment of players and firing came out on Thursday, it was easy to wonder.

Five days earlier, backup quarterback Zander Diamont announced that he was retiring from football. He said “I need my brain.”

It would’ve been easy to piece two and two together and assume that Diamont’s retirement was related to Wilson’s treatment of him.

But according to Diamont, that wasn’t the case at all.

Diamont has always been as straight-forward as possible with the media. The timing of Wilson’s firing likely led many to assume things about Diamont’s retirement, but that didn’t appear to be the case.

We’ll have more on Wilson’s firing as more information surfaces. The university is holding a press conference at 6 p.m. ET.
