After last season’s debacle, who would’ve thought No. 11 Michigan State would be off to a 5-0 start and ranked in the Top-25, much less a tick away from the Top-10.
The arrival of Kenneth Walker III and the emergence of Payton Thorne as offensive threats have propelled the Spartans into upper ranks of the B1G.
Spartans head coach Mel Tucker overhauled the team during the offseason by adding 20 transfers, including 14 of them coming from other Power Five schools.
Walker has run for 680 yards, and leads all FBS players and has been a force in getting the Spartans those first five wins — already blowing away his 2-5 records in Tucker’s debut season last year.
So looking ahead, the Spartans still have No. 4 Penn State and No. 7 Ohio State remaining on the slate. According to ESPN’s FPI, here is what they see is in store for the Spartans.
- Sat, Oct 9 @ Rutgers – 65.3%
- Sat, Oct 16 @ Indiana – 62.8%
- Sat, Oct 30 vs No. 9 Michigan – 42.1%
- Sat, Nov 6 @ Purdue – 64.9%
- Sat, Nov 13 vs Maryland – 82.4%
- Sat, Nov 20 @ No. 7 Ohio State – 18.7%
- Sat, Nov 27 vs No. 4 Penn State – 49.4%
