Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker has hit the equivalent of the Transfer Portal Lottery this season with the addition of running back Kennethy Walker III, who came to East Lansing from Wake Forest last fall.

Walker III started paying off for the Spartans from the first play from scrimmage in the 2021 season, when he broke for a 75-yard touchdown run to open the season against Northwestern — he finished the game with 264 yards on 23 carries and 4 touchdowns.

Since then he’s just kept rolling.

After his 233 yards rushing against Rutgers during the Spartans 31-13 victory over the Scarlet Knights on Saturday, Walker III finds himself in the Top-10 of all FBS schools in 10 categories — the only player in the nation to do so.

Walker III ranks No. 1 in the nation in rushing yards (913), rushing yards after contact (670), and rushing carries for 10+ yards (26). Other categories he falls among the top-10 are rushing TD’s (9, 4th), total TD’s (10, 5th), all-purpose yards (157.2ypg, 6th), yards per carry (7.1avg, 10th).

It’s safe to say, Walker III has firmly put his name in the mix for the Heisman watch news.

The Spartans will take their offensive show on the road this week when they head to Bloomington to take on Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 16, with an 11:00 AM kickoff.
