Back in August, 3-star defensive line prospect Brian Allen Jr. announced he had chosen to continue his football career at Illinois. At the time, Allen had just two teams on his prospective list, the Illini and Iowa.

Today, Allen announced over his Twitter feed that he would be reopening his recruitment process, and removing his commitment to Illinois.

A 6-foot-3, 230-pound defensive linemen, Allen was originally from Illinois but in February transferred out to Connecticut to finish his high school career. Known for strength on the edge on defense, Allen has a reputation for being able to get to the ball quickly and can play either defensive end or slide to linebacker.

The move to reopen Allen’s recruitment is a blow to the Illini, who are struggling to get things rolling under the new Bret Bielema regime.
