It’s been 20 years since Maryland won a conference title, doing so in 2001 under coach Ralph Friedgen as a member of the ACC.

This weekend, that group will be honored during the homecoming festivities, Maryland Athletics announced Wednesday night.

In 2001 — Friedgen’s first season at Maryland — the Terps went 10-1 to win the ACC and appear in their first bowl game since 1990. They played Florida in the Orange Bowl and eventually lost 56-23.

Friedgen played at Maryland from 1966-68 and started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Terps from 1969-71. He returned to College Park in 2001 after serving as Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 1997-2000.

During his 10 years as Maryland coach, Friedgen totaled a 75-50 record, including 43-37 in ACC play, and led the Terps to 7 bowl appearances.

Maryland’s homecoming game is Oct. 30 against Indiana.
