Maryland will be without two of its best wide receivers this weekend against Minnesota.

Tuesday morning, Emily Giambalvo reported that Jeshaun Jones was not listed on the depth chart after the receiver suffered an injury against Ohio State. It’s unclear how long Jones could be out, but it appears that it will at least be for another week.

It’s a major blow to the Terrapins’ offense, which is already without top target Dontay Demus Jr., who was injured in Maryland’s loss to Iowa. He is done for the season.

Jones’ absence now bumps Brian Cobbs into the starting role, along with Rakim Jarrett and Darryl Jones. Dino Tomlin is now the backup to Cobbs.

In his 6 appearances this season, Jones caught 18 passes for 224 yards. He played in 4 games during the 2020 season and totaled 181 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions. Jones missed the entire 2019 season due to injury after piling up 288 yards and hauling in 5 touchdown passes on 22 catches as a freshman in 2018.

Maryland will now need Cobbs, Jarrett and Jones to step up even more for quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. The Terrapins enter Saturday’s game against Maryland 4-2 on the season and coming off a bye week.

The Golden Gophers have won two straight games while the Terps have dropped two in a row.
