Illinois fans will have flashbacks watching Ayo Dosunmu’s first NBA baskets.

Dosunmu checked in for the first time in the 2nd quarter, but got involved with the offense in the 3rd quarter and made his first two career baskets in transition. His first one tied the game, and the second one put the Chicago Bulls ahead 71-69 before the buzzer sounded.

The Bulls took Dosunmu 38th overall in this year’s NBA Draft and signed him to a 2-year, $2.48 million deal. He saw some action in preseason, but got his first regular-season NBA minutes in the Bulls’ season opener against the Detroit Pistons Wednesday night.

Dosnumu played at Illinois from 2018-21 and starred for Brad Underwood’s Illini teams. He averaged 16.7 points and 3.9 assists per game on 47% shooting, including 34.5% from 3-point territory, during his career. He currently has 7 points and 2 rebounds for the Bulls, who trail the Pistons 77-76 in the 4th quarter.
