Ohio State WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been CFB’s best out of the slot, per PFF

When you think of Ohio State wide receivers, typically Chris Olave or Garrett Wilson come to mind.

But thanks to the attention the likely first-rounders are getting from opponents, sophomore wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba finds himself right with them in the stat column, and leading the nation with an amazing 18 catches of 15+ yards out of the slot.

The recruit out of Texas was known for putting up record numbers in high school. He picked right up where he left off in Columbus. Smith-Njigba rarely played during his true-freshman season.

In 2021, the sophomore already has 551 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the Buckeyes seven games. Wilson and Olave are right with him, with 605 and 518 yards on the books, respectively.

Both Wilson and Olave are likely first-round draft picks in the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft. With how his sophomre season is going, a case can be made that the focus on the pair has helped Smith-Njigba to get where he is.

The fact remains, that Smith-Njigba completes a three-headed monster that is helping to build Ohio State’s momentum as the season nears an end.

The Buckeyes host No. 20 Penn State on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 PM.
