Newly minted in the College Football Playoff Rankings, Michigan State will look to remain undefeated when the Spartans travel to face B1G West opponent Purdue on Nov. 6.

Leading up to the matchup, Michigan State named its captains for Week 10: offensive lineman JD Duplain, safety Xavier Henderson, and tackle AJ Arcuri.

Duplain is a junior and Henderson and Arcuri are seniors.

Michigan State is ranked No. 3 in the first edition of the CFP rankings. Michigan State is 8-0 and in first place in the B1G East. Michigan State most recently edged in-state rival Michigan 37-33 on Oct. 30.

The victory made a major impact on the rankings:

“Clearly that Michigan-Michigan State game was important in the evaluation and putting Michigan State in third,” said CFP selection committee chair and Iowa athletic director Gary Barta.

Purdue defeated then-No. 2 Iowa on Oct. 17. Michigan State leads the all-time series 36-28-3 and is on an eight-game winning streak vs. Purdue.
