Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud completed 22-of-34 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown during the Buckeyes 33-24 win over Penn State. While the numbers aren’t what he’s been used to putting up over the three games prior since returning from a shoulder injury.

But Stroud is optimistic his full recovery is near, and he won’t need surgery.

While the numbers weren’t bad, fans are accustomed to seeing more. But for a first-year quarterback who’s spent three weeks getting back his confidence, they were pretty good. The OSU offensive line put forth one of its worst games of the season, and had trouble creating holes for the running game. Despite the difficulties, Stroud had only been hurried once and the PSU defense didn’t record a single sack.

The Week 2 struggles against Oregon that saw the first-year get rattled in the pocket were gone. The overthows were gone, but he didn’t record a single rushing attempt. The read-options went to TreVeyon Henderson rather than turning into keepers. Henderson racked up 152 yards on his 28 carries, but Stroud may have to adjust if the upcoming defenses do as well.

The Buckeyes head to Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 6 with an 11:00 AM kickoff scheduled.
