After coming in for an injured Jameis Winston, Trevor Siemian is now expected to be starting for the New Orleans Saints against the Atlanta Falcons.
Winston tore his ACL in Week 8 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Siemian came in after that injury and went 16-for-29 with 159 yards passing and a touchdown to secure the 36-27 victory.
The former Northwestern QB is now expected to be starting for the first time since his stint with the Denver Broncos in 2017. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced the news via Twitter on Friday.
The #Saints are expected to start QB Trevor Siemian on Sunday vs. the #Falcons, sources say. Not a surprise considering how poised he was in relief last week.

Siemian was selected out of Northwestern by the Denver Broncos in the 2015 NFL Draft in the 7th round at pick No. 250. He spent 2015 to 2017 in Denver before joining the Minnesota Vikings in 2018.
He didn’t make an appearance for the Vikings with Kirk Cousins as the starter, so he moved again in 2019 to the New York Jets. Siemian was also on the Tennessee Titans practice squad in 2020 before getting signed by the Saints in November of 2020.
Siemian has 5,848 yards passing in his 5-year career with 31 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.
The New Orleans Saints (5-2) and Atlanta Falcons (3-4) play Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on Fox.
