No. 22 Iowa is coming off a 17-12 win over Northwestern in Evanston, IL., on Saturday night.

Iowa QB Spencer Petras dealt with a shoulder  injury heading into the game, but the coaching staff believed he was ready to play Saturday. Petras was pulled after 3 series, and backup QB Alex Padilla played the rest of the game.

“We were all confident he’d be able to go today,” Ferentz said of Petras, according to Chad Leistikow of Hawk Central. “I don’t think it’s anything major, just something you’ve got to work through. Hopefully Monday or Tuesday, he’ll be back full speed.”

Here is what head coach Kirk Ferentz said about the QB situation moving forward.

“We’ll look at the film, see what we think,” Ferentz said. “I know this, Spencer has led us to a lot of victories. And tonight, Alex did. To me that’s a good situation.”

Ferentz likes where the Hawkeyes are at in the QB room.

“I’m really proud of Alex for what he did. I’m really proud of the things Spencer has done over the last two years as well,” said Ferentz. “We’ll just take it a day at a time, but hopefully it’s — pardon the pun — a healthy situation for us.”
